Yes, this a known problem for g77 'tuned and tailored' for MacOS.
machar is a routine, used to find out machine constants (like minimal positive, etc.).
For some platforms the algorithm which is used in this routine doesn't work, and so these constants are hardwired.
Since this problem is specific only for g77-for-Mac_x86 I don't want to make an official fix. However, you may edit the routine and delete line 94 (#define) and lines from 113 until the final End.
